Whitby neighbourhoods

Whitby's ten MLS communities are the best way to search the town, because that is how listings and sold history are organized. Brooklin is the village north of the 407 and the subdivisions around it. Rural Whitby covers the farms, hamlets and acreages beyond, along with some new West Whitby streets that still carry the rural label. Taunton North, Williamsburg, Rolling Acres and Pringle Creek form the established middle of town between Rossland and the 407. Lynde Creek is the west end along the ravine, Blue Grass Meadows the east end near Thickson. Downtown Whitby is the heritage core at Brock and Dundas, and Port Whitby is everything south of the 401, including the GO station and the harbour. Each guide below explains the streets, the schools, the commute and who the place suits, then shows the current listings.

Questions people ask about Whitby neighbourhoods

Why do some new Whitby subdivisions show up as Rural Whitby?

The board's community boundaries were drawn before the West Whitby lands and Brooklin's northern phases were built, so the MLS reportedly files some of those streets under Rural Whitby. Locals call them West Whitby or by the subdivision name. Search Rural Whitby if a new-build street near Lake Ridge Road is missing from the community you expected.

Are Whitby neighbourhood names official?

The Town of Whitby uses its own planning names, and residents use others still, such as Whitby Shores for the streets by the lake or the Four Corners for downtown. The guides here use the exact community names on the MLS as headings and mention the local names inside, so you can match what agents write to what neighbours say.

Which Whitby neighbourhoods are closest to nature?

Lynde Creek borders Lynde Shores Conservation Area and its marshes. Port Whitby has the lake, the harbour and the Waterfront Trail. Williamsburg is beside Cullen Central Park. Rural Whitby has the Oak Ridges Moraine country north of Brooklin. Every community has ravine trails along one of the town's creeks.
